Description

1971 Boston Whaler 17? Montauk?A True American Classic! For sale is a well-loved 17? Montauk. I purchased this boat from a gentleman who bought it for his family and maintained it meticulously. He very recently had the exterior of the boat sprayed in a fresh gel-coat of the new Whaler exterior light blue. The paint job was fantastic, and I have gotten countless compliments from buddies at the ramp! The upholstery was replaced less than two years ago, and it looks like new. The rub rail also appears new or not very old. Previously the inside of the boat was coated in a non-slip deck liner. The job has not aged particularly well, and the inside could use a fresh paint job. I have gotten quotes under $1000 to do this. If you repainted the inside, you would have a nearly fully-restored boat. The boat appears to be solid. The transom is in good shape?it shows absolutely no signs of rot or deterioration. The transom is equipped with an expensive adjustable mount outboard jack plate to allow for the motor to sit at the perfect height in relation to the boat. I was told the 1993 100hp Johnson had fewer than 100 hours on it. Under the cowling, the engine appears in excellent condition. It is the more pricey ?commercial? version of the motor, which includes a stronger lower-unit, a more durable water pump, and cylinders designed to allow the engine to last longer. The engine was serviced last year with new spark plugs. Also, a few years ago, a high-quality four-blade prop was installed to maximize performance. The previous owner told me with proper trim the Whaler could reach 50 mph. This power makes it an awesome boat for pulling skiers! The engine has oil injection?which is true convenience as you don?t have to mess with pre-mixing! I fired up the engine for the start of the season, and I could not get it to idle. It runs great at higher rpm, but will cut off at idle. The motor starts right up with a turn of the key. I had one mechanic look at it who told me the carbs got gummed up from sitting and need to be rebuilt. He quoted me at $300 to install rebuilt carbs, but couldn?t do it before the 4th?so I?m getting a new boat! If the buyer would like, I can have the fresh carbs installed before you pick it up. I just need a boat for the family sooner than that! The trailer is a 1993 and is in great condition. The tires were replaced with brand new tires last month.
